This directory contains data used in "A Frictionless View of U.S. Inflation" 1998 Macroeconomics annual. An overview of the files: Aggreg1.txt and Aggreg2.txt contain debt aggregates. All data are annual, as of December 31. Aggreg1.txt: Treasury debt + savings bonds. 1) total face value 2) total market value 3) total face value privately held 4) total market value privately held Aggreg2.txt: 1) montary base 2) market value -- privately held (#4 above) plus monetary base 3) return imputed from fama-bliss zero coupon prices 4) surplus computed from value, return 5) cpi privateface.txt privatezero.txt totalface.txt totalzero.txt These files contain maturity structures. Each row starts with the date (e.g. 79.0 for Dec 31 1979) and then there is a row of values for t+0, t+1,.. t+40. t+0 is all debt coming due in the next year, t+1 is all debt coming due between 1 and 2 years etc. private = privately held (starts in 1960), total = total debt issue (includes debt held by the fed, social security, etc.), face = face values, zero includes coupons. For example, if there were one five year 5% coupon bond outstanding in 1979, the face value would look like this: 79 0 0 0 0 100 while the zero file would look like this 79 5 5 5 5 105
